On Sunday, my friends P. and D. met me in the Bishop Arts District. We had decided to do the Bike Friendly Oak Cliff Hellhound on my Trail Bike Ride. D. found a path that would take us from B.A.D. to the grassy knoll. Why all of my bike rides in downtown Dallas, pass the knoll is beyond me! It’s not even my favorite place in Dallas.
We decided to cross into downtown by crossing the rather looming zane bridge. P. got a flat about half way there. My friends turned back and walked all the way back to the B.A.D. Which was about two miles. Luckily the Oak Cliff Bicycle Company was open and P. has a shiny new tire. One would think we would learn to carry tubes and repair kits. This is something I should learn how to do!
While they walked back, I decided to go ahead to the knoll. I made new friends as I waited for them to show. It was about 102 out and P. felt a little sick and they decided not to make the ride. After walking in the heat, who can blame her!
I should have walked back but I didn’t instead of tried to make the nine mile ride. Nine miles isn’t bad, but it was hot! I was not prepared and couldn’t make the entire ride. About half way through I started to get shaky.
BFOC is bringing back one of our popular history themed rides, Hellhound On My Trail. This ride highlights the blues and western swing past of Dallas. Once again, we’ll begin our ride at Dealey Plaza and the grassy knoll at 1:30PM on Sunday, June 12th. Be sure to arrive a few minutes early, as these history-themed group rides have been getting pretty large.
The group ride will take us through downtown Dallas and into the cradle of Dallas music history, “Deep Ellum”. From there, we’ll head over to 508 Park Avenue where the legendary Robert Johnson recorded, through the Cedars area to Bob Wills’ Longhorn Ballroom, across the scenic Corinth Street bridge, and onto the stomping grounds of T-Bone Walker. We’ll stop in the Bishop Arts for drinks, and end our tour passing Methodist Hospital, birthplace of Stevie Ray Vaughan.
The ride is approximately 9.5 miles, with some small and medium sized hills. This ride will be weather permitting and open to all expierence levels. Check back prior to the ride date for updates.
I can’t wait for my next bike ride! Next time, I will make all nine hilly miles!
